Knowledge is Power: Girls Talk on Sexual Violence

Earlier today, I received a call from a partner regarding a case of intimate partner violence. This prompted me to reflect on our advocacy efforts and their impact on the individuals we serve. Violence against women is pervasive in our communities, and we all have a role to play in combating it. This week, we are celebrating Women’s Health Week, and we have planned various activities to promote awareness and education.

We kicked off the week with a “Girls Talk” session, engaging twenty young girls in discussions about sexual education and its positive effects. Lack of information can lead to misconceptions, so it’s vital that we raise a new generation of youth who are informed about their health and behaviors.

During our discussion, we focused on sexual violence, particularly within homes. The young participants learned about various mechanisms to prevent such actions against them.

Knowledge is power, and by equipping these girls with information, we empower them to protect themselves.

As we continue our advocacy work, let us remember the importance of leaving no one behind. Together, we can create safer communities where women and girls can thrive without fear of violence.
